Residente to perform in native Puerto Rico

San Juan, May 16 (EFE).- Former Calle 13 frontman Residente on Wednesday said that the show he will offer this weekend in Puerto Rico's capital will help him "recharge."

"To me, it's always a pleasure to perform in Puerto Rico," Rene Perez told reporters. "It is also a necessity, after playing in so many countries. It recharges me. I also know that I will feel the energy of each song in a different way because this is my country."

After kicking off the first tour of his solo career in Mexico last June 17, a tour which also took him to Europe and the rest of Latin America, Residente arrived in Puerto Rico with a new group after 10 years with Calle 13.

The singer is set to perform several of his memorable numbers, such as "Hijos del caƱaveral (Children of the Sugar Cane Plantation), included on his first self-titled solo album and which he sang at the Latin Grammy awards gala last November, just two months after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico.

"Ever since I performed at the Grammys, I've been very moved," he added. "I expect a lot of emotion and hope people will feel the same. I hope that people can recharge because they've been through a lot, as well as my family."

Residente said that he was trying to get his former Calle 13 bandmates, Eduardo Cabra (Visitante) and Ileana Cabra (Ile), to join him on stage Saturday at Hiram Bithorn Stadium, where the group played their final concert more than two years ago.
