Butler to sign five-season deal with the Titans

New York, Mar 13 (efe-epa).- New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler agreed to sign a five-year contract worth $61 million with the Tennessee Titans, according to sources close to the team Tuesday, and the contract includes a guarantee of $30 million.

Rumors surrounding Butler's likely departure from the New England Patriots surfaced after the team lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 33-41 in the 2018 Super Bowl.

Butler did not play in the match against the Eagles as head Coach Bill Belichick decided to bench him.

After the game, Butler, feeling uncomfortable with the decision, said that the Patriots abandoned him and that if he had played, the result might have been different.

Butler, who clinched the victory for the Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX with his famous game-sealing interception, has been with the team for four years.

Butler started every game in 2015 and 2016, earning the Pro Bowl title in 2015. However, his future with the Patriots seemed uncertain after the 2016 season as he was a restricted free agent.

The game-changing cornerback returned to the Patriots in 2017 and played a season that ended with Belichick's decision not to include him on the team's defense in the Super Bowl LII. EFE
