Antekounmpo helps Bucks take 2-0 lead over Raptors in EC finals

Milwaukee, USA, May 17 (efe-epa).- Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo put up a double-double of 30 points and 17 rebounds along with five assists and two blocks to lead his team to a 125-103 win against the Toronto Raptors in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals at the Fiserv Forum on Friday.

With the victory, the team from the Badger State is up 2-0 in the best-of-seven series, two wins away from reaching their first finals in 45 years.

Antetokounmpo once again saved his best for the fourth quarter, when he scored 11 points to consolidate the lead the Bucks had held throughout the game.

“He (Giannis) plays so hard, he lays it all on the line all the time. It was a great start for us. I think everybody fed off of Giannis and how he started the game,” Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer said after the game.

Along with Antetokounmpo, who won the duel with forward Kawhi Leonard – the only one to put up a fight for the Raptors – Ersan Ilyasova proved to be a surprise factor, coming off the bench to add 17 points, including 15 in the first quarter.

Ilyasova also captured three rebounds, handed two assists and had two steals.

Nikola Mirotic scored another 15 points for the Bucks, shooting 5-of-10 from the field, including 2-of-7 3-pointers, and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.

Mirotic also captured six rebounds – five of them defensive – and committed four fouls.

Other Bucks’ reserves with double-digit scores were Malcolm Brogdom, with 14 points, and veteran George Hill, with 13, while Khris Middleton ended with another 12.

"Ersan is a proven pro... He's reliable, especially in the playoffs and the heat of the moment," Brogdom said after the game.

Meanwhile, Leonard, with 31 points, proved to the only consistent player for the Raptors, who were inconsistent in their attack and were dominated in the paint once again by the Bucks, who finished with 53 rebounds against 40 by the Canadian team.

Point guard Kyle Lowry, who had scored 30 points in the first game, sunk a meager 15 this time, while reserve forward Norman Powell made 14 for the Raptors.

Serge Ibaka was the best player in the paint with 8 points and 10 rebounds, eight of them defensive, and gave three assists while giving up the ball four times and committing four personal fouls.

Game 3 will be played in Toronto on Sunday.
