San Juan, May 17 (efe-epa).- The 17th edition of Puerto Rico Comic Con got under way Friday at the San Juan Convention Center, kicking off a busy weekend of talks, workshops and guest panels amid an array of the latest in videogames, music and film.

"We remain committed to providing a unique entertainment experience, addressing the tastes of our audience, which covers the range from children to their grandparents," Puerto Rico Comic Con executive producer Ricardo Carrion said.

"This year's entertainment value proposition is our most varied and complete yet, thus strengthening our show as a world-class event," he said.

Founded in 2002, the largest comic book and entertainment convention in the Caribbean has grown into a pop culture phenomenon in Puerto Rico and the surrounding region.

This year's edition will allow visitors to sample fresh content from the realms of film, television, comic books, videogames, animation, art and cosplay.

Besides bringing international stars to San Juan, Comic Com offers a platform to independent Puerto Rican artists and content creators.

"Pleasing our fans is a priority, so this year's event will integrate new dimensions, all designed to give geeks of all ages an experience like no other," Carrion said.

Special guests set to appear at Puerto Rico Comic Con 2019 include actor Robin Lord Taylor, best known for portraying "The Penguin" in the TV series "Gotham," and Zazie Beetz, who played the role of Domino in "Deadpool 2" and is part of the cast of the upcoming film "Joker."

Also in the lineup are John DiMaggio, a voice actor on TV series such as "Futurama" and "Adventure Time," and comic-book writer and artist Dan Parent, famous for his contributions to the "Archie" comics.

Fans will likewise get the chance to meet Lucie Pohl, a voice actor for the "Overwatch" videogame franchise.

WWE superstar Bray Wyatt will be at the event, as will Japanese music duo TiA & Kohei.

And the schedule includes live video chats with two popular authors in the young adult genre: Becky Albertalli ("Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda") and Kendare Blake ("Three Dark Crowns").
