Tegucigalpa, Oct 15 (EFE).- Marathon played to a 2-2 tie with Real España over the weekend, retaining its hold on the top spot in the Honduran league.

In other action on Sunday, Olimpia and Motagua finished with a 1-1 draw.

Both Marathon and Olimpia have 24 points, but Marathon controls first place on goal differential.

Olimpia, the league's only undefeated team, avoided a loss in Tegucigalpa against rival Motagua, which is managed by Honduran-Argentine Diego Vazquez.

Motagua striker Rubillo Castillo scored the first goal in the 63rd minute.

Olimpia dominated Motagua early in the match in a battle of the clubs with the biggest followings in Honduras.

The teams played in heavy rain and Olimpia's Rony Martinez scored the goal that tied the match in the 84th minute.

Real España is in third place, with 22 points, on goal differential.

Motagua, which also has 22 points, is in fourth place and Platense is in fifth place, with 21 points.
