Asuncion, Oct 11 (efe-epa).- Cerro Porteño will take the field in the next round of Paraguayan Clausura tournament play with the goal of staying in first place in the standings, a spot the club grabbed with a win last week.

The club is trying to pull away from Olimpia, which is just one point back in the standings.

Cerro Porteño has until Oct. 16 to prepare for Libertad, which is led by new manager Leonel Alvarez.

The 53-year-old Colombian manager's hiring makes it more difficult for Cerro Porteño to come up with a strategy since he led the club until earier this year.

The Cerro Porteño-Libertad match is the last contest in the 14th round of play, which begins on Friday with the clash between Sportivo Luqueño and 3 de Febrero and the contest pitting Independiente de Campo Grande against Guarani.

Deportivo de Santani will take on Olimpia next Monday.

Cerro Porteño is in first place in the standings, with 30 points, one ahead of Olimpia.

Deportivo de Capiata is in third place, with 18 points.

Libertad is in fourth place on goal differential, with 16 points, while Nacional sits in fifth place, with 16 points.
