Montevideo, Sep 20 (EFE).- Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez said here Thursday that he and the leaders of the other Mercosur countries - Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay - will meet next week in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

His discussions with counterparts Mauricio Macri of Argentina, Michel Temer of Brazil and Mario Abdo Benitez and Paraguay will focus on Mercosur's efforts to forge trade agreements with third countries and other trade blocs, Vazquez said.

The summit was originally set for Sept. 18, but scheduling conflicts forced a postponement, the president told reporters in Montevideo.

Vazquez will travel to the United States on Sunday to participate in the General Assembly, where he said he plans to raise issues such as "the impact of climate change on the global low-income population."

"That's the political issue I want to talk about as the president of our country, but afterward I will work in the United Nations on non-communicable diseases," he said.
