    19 de septiembre de 2018

Buenos Aires, Sep 19 (EFE).- Argentine President Mauricio Macri traveled Wednesday to the northern province of Salta to inaugurate a new irrigation system that he said would benefit 350 farmers.

"This system of pressurized irrigation is clearly the most modern in Latin America," he said in Campo Quijano.

"We're talking about more than 350 farmers who will have better quantity, quality and provision of water and in a way that will allow them to diversify their production," the president said.

Macri said that the new system will likewise expand the growing season in the area from six months to year-round.

He said that the project, 76 percent funded by the national government, is part of "historic reparations to northern Argentina" after years of "neglect."

"Hundreds of projects have been set in motion in these last 2 1/2 years (since he took office) with the purpose of creating the capacity for every Argentine in the north to develop," Macri said.

The president was accompanied by Salta Gov. Juan Manuel Urtubey and Agro-Industry Secretary Luis Etchevehere, among other dignitaries.
