Cincinnati, USA, Aug 17 (efe-epa) - The world number one, Romanian Simona Halep, Czech Petra Kvitova and Dutch Kiki Bertens qualified Friday for the semifinals of the Cincinnati Masters tennis tournament, held in Mason, Ohio.

Both Halep and Bertens had earlier in the day to finish their respective Round of 16 matches, which had been postponed by rain on Thursday, but they did not seem to feel tired.

Halep, first seeded and finalist in Cincinnati a year ago, when she lost to Spain's Garbine Muguruza, beat Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko in the quarter-finals Friday, needing only two sets, 6-4 and 6-1.

Halep will face the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated the American Madison Keys (13) in just two sets, 6-3 and 6-4.

The other semi-final will feature Czech Petra Kvitova, eighth seeded, and Dutch Kiki Bertens.

Kvitova, ranked sixth in the world needed three sets but won 7-5, 5-7 and 6-3 against Belgian Elise Mertens, 15th seeded, while Bertens prevailed over the fifth seeded Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 6-4 and 6-3.

Kvitova and Bertens have met three times previously on the WTA circuit, of which two were wins for the Czech and one for the Dutch.
