Juanes says hurricane-postponed concert in Puerto Rico will be big party

San Juan, Jun 13 (efe-epa).- Colombian pop star Juanes said Wednesday that a concert this weekend in Puerto Rico would be a festive event aimed at bringing joy to people who suffered greatly in the wake of last year's devastating Hurricane Maria.

"We're going to have a party on Friday. We're going to give it all we have. The energy's going to super high at all times. The party's going to be at 100 percent," Juanes said at a press conference at the venue for Friday night's concert, San Juan's Jose Miguel Agrelot Coliseum.

Juanes said he would play music from throughout his career, from his early days with the group Ekhymosis up to his 2017 album "Mis planes son amarte."

The popular recording artist had originally been scheduled to perform on the United States commonwealth on Nov. 18, 2017, but the concert had to be postponed because the coliseum was being used to house people affected by the Category 4 hurricane, which struck Puerto Rico on Sept. 20 and devastated the island's power grid.

"We want the people to have fun and bring joy to a people that so much needs it," Juanes, winner of 23 Latin Grammy awards, said.

The concert will promote the first track off his upcoming album, "Pa' dentro," a song that he co-wrote with Mau & Ricky Montaner and Camilo Echeverry and which is full of references to issues that concern him as a father of three, a Latin American and a citizen of the world: gender equality and urban violence.
