Buenos Aires, Jun 13 (efe-epa).- Argentine President Mauricio Macri has a benign pancreatic cyst that requires no treatment, the government said Wednesday.

"An abdominal ultrasound showed a pre-existing benign pancreatic cyst," Macri's office said in a statement following the 59-year-old president's routine medical checkup in the Buenos Aires municipality of Vicente Lopez.

The statement also said that an MRI showed the same results, adding that "treatment is not necessary."

Macri - who took office in December 2015 - was admitted to the hospital with mild cardiac arrhythmia in June 2016, and he remained hospitalized for two days, causing public debate.

The president then had a knee arthroscopy to remove a portion of the meniscus one month later with no complications.
