Rivaldo and Salgado: Brazil, Spain, France and Germany favorites to win WC

Guatemala City, May 16 (efe-epa).- Retired players Rivaldo and Michel Salgado agree on the top four teams at the World Cup, picking Brazil, Spain, France and Germany as the favorites to win the biggest prize in soccer.

Guatemala City, May 16 (efe-epa).- Retired players Rivaldo and Michel Salgado agree on the top four teams at the World Cup, picking Brazil, Spain, France and Germany as the favorites to win the biggest prize in soccer.

Rivaldo, a Brazilian, and Salgado, who is from Spain, are in Guatemala for a friendly next Saturday featuring numerous legends of international soccer.

The retired players took time out on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming World Cup in Russia with reporters, sharing their lists of the top five teams to watch at the tournament.

While the 46-year-old Rivaldo and the 42-year-old Salgado agreed on the top four teams, they differed when it came to the No. 5 favorite.

Rivaldo picked England as his No. 5, but Salgado went with Argentina and superstar Lionel Messi to win it all.

The former Barcelona and Real Madrid players, however, said they were most confident in their own countries Brazil and Spain - to take the World Cup.

Rivaldo, who won the 2002 World Cup with the Brazilian national team, said "Brazil is always the favorite to win the World Cup."

Salgado, for his part, said he expected Spanish national team coach Julen Lopetegui's squad to win a second World Cup in Russia after taking the title at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Rivaldo and Salgado will take the field at Guatemala City's Cementos Progreso Stadium on Saturday with other former international stars, including Roberto Carlos, Deco, Rene Higuita, Carles Puyol, Luis Figo, Javier Saviola, Fernando Morientes and David Trezeguet, against a team of retired Guatemalan players led by former striker Juan Carlos Plata in the 3rd Copa Cementos Progreso.
