Quito, Ecuador, Apr 16 (efe-epa).- The President of Ecuador on Monday gave 10 days to his security ministers to capture the person known as "Guacho," the main suspect in the murders of three El Comercio newspaper employees.

"The ministers in charge of this process have 10 days to fulfill it. Rest assured that we are going to achieve it," said Lenin Moreno during an address on radio and television.

Moreno also gave a 10-day deadline to Walter Patricio Arizala Vernaza, known as "Guacho" and a dissident of the former guerrilla group FARC, to surrender to the authorities.

Guacho is the main person accused in the murders of the El Comercio employees - reporter Javier Ortega, 36; photographer Paul Rivas, 45; and driver Efrain Segarra, 60.

His group has also been identified as being responsible for several attacks in the region bordering Colombia, in which four soldiers have died.

"Ecuador must fight to defeat the criminal gangs and capture the one responsible for this tragedy, the drug-trafficker alias 'Guacho,'" said the president.
