    "Despacito" picks up 2 Latin Grammys ahead of gala

    Las Vegas, Nov 16 (efe-epa).- Global hit "Despacito" picked up two Latin Grammys here Thursday in a non-televised ceremony ahead of the primetime gala at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

    "Despacito (Remix)," a version of Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee collaboration that features Justin Bieber, won the award for best urban fusion/performance.

    The song also took the award for best short-form music video.

    Residente, who leads with nine nominations in all, received the award for best urban music album.

    The Puerto Rican rapper thanked his family for their support and tolerance during the years he spent making the self-titled album.

    Residente's stepbrother and partner in Calle 13, Eduardo Cabra, won the Latin Grammy for producer of the year.

    Mon Laferte was tearful as he accepted the best alternative song trophy for "Amarrame," his first Latin Grammy, while Natalia Lafourcade's "Musas" was selected as best folk album.

    Diamante Electrico got the best rock album award for "La gran oscilacion" and got a piece of the award for best rock song with "Dejala rodar."

    The band shared that honor with Andres Calamaro's "La noche."
