EFE to help prepare next generation of Paraguayan journalists

    17 de julio de 2017

Asuncion, Jul 17 (efe-epa).- The Paraguayan government and Agencia EFE, Spain's international news agency, presented here Monday an initiative that calls for the agency to participate in the education and training of journalists in the South American nation.

The program is outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding signed by EFE President Jose Antonio Vera and the head of Paraguay's Secretariat of Information and Communication (Sicom), Fabrizio Caligaris.

"One must take into account that Agencia EFE has bureaus in 120 countries around the world and the level of collaboration can be brought directly to any country," Vera said.

"We already do that in Spain and that allows us to have journalists of different nationalities substitute for one another and experience other latitudes, other ways of doing journalism, within an international agency such as Agencia EFE," he said.

The memorandum states that Sicom "will provide sufficient financing" for training activities, either directly or via partnerships with other public or private entities.

Prior to the signing, Vera visited Mburuvicha Roga, Paraguay's presidential palace, for a meeting with head of state Horacio Cartes.

The two men discussed Spanish companies' interest in investment in Paraguay as well as the South American nation's potential as a tourist destination.
