Caracas, Apr 20 (efe-epa).- President Nicolas Maduro on Thursday announced that he had requested a probe of the Venezuelan affiliate of Spanish telecommunications firm Movistar, which he accused of having joined the "coupist summons" to mobilize anti-government demonstrators around the country.

On the obligatory radio and television broadcast of an event in Caracas, the president said that "the firm Movistar every two hours sends millions of messages to Movistar users by telephone and Internet" regarding the massive nationwide anti-government demonstrations on Wednesday.

Maduro said that Movistar "should know that is not its function," adding that more than $100 million has been invested in the "coupist summons" among opposition forces to challenge his government.
